Dear friends,
It is PANIIT's plan to expose the students of both the CADCAM & CNC
Groups to Industry.I look for opportunities for this exposure for
ITI_T's students ( of CoE section).
I took 11 students from CADCAM Group and 4 Trainers to PMC Rubber
Chemicals India Pvt. Ltd.,Rishra on 14/12/2007. Mr Amitava Lahiri,
IIT_Kgp, Chem Engg.'68 batch has worked here since 1969 and is
currently engaged as an Advisor. I took his help in obtaining
permission for this visit.
This set-up was an ICI-owned factory earlier.The ICI set-up @
Rishra,West Bengal, we were informed during the introductory lecture
given by the Safety Officer Mr S R Maity, started functioning since
1939 AD . Rubber Chemical Plant was built in 1961.The new owner,in
2006, took over this Plant which is in the business of manufacture of
sophisticated additives,e.g., Accelerators and Retarders,for
vulcanising process.
I took this opportunity to explain to the students Layout
Engg.,importance of Single-line diagrams,Pipe Racks with expansion
arrangement, and suggested that they remember the need of ensuring
dimensional accuracy to reduce time-waste & accident-risk at
construction sites in their working life.The Trainers could show the
students various types of structural sections, valves, pipes ( 3-D
layouts) and vessels. A visit to Workshop , kindly arranged by
Amitava,was also very useful.
